For one and a
half week Park has been away on international duty, and believe me when I tell
you it has seemed like an eternity. The fact that there was no football this
past weekend made the wait even longer. But today, at 9:32 am, Chu-Young Park
arrived to the training centre driving his Citroen. The morning was very chill
but that did not prevent the Korean Striker from wearing a short leaves
t-shirt. He looked a bit tired, but that’s normal considering the trip he has been
going through and the jet lag.
Park found his
team mates in good spirit, and this positive atmosphere will surely help him
overcome Korea’s loss against Iran. The rest of the team still has the taste of
victory on his mouth, as Celta won last league game against Sevilla, and a
friendly game against Lugo, this one while Park was away.
But, apart from
cheers and support, he has found a fierce competitor for the starter spot in
Mario Bermejo. The veteran striker did not only had a brilliant performance
against Lugo, scoring two goals and assisting on the other, but he also has
been training harder than ever, knowing he just had seven sessions to prove
Celta’s coach he deserves the place more than Park. I can assure the physical
intensity Bermejo has been putting on this week and a half has been unbelievable,
and is not going to make it easy for Herrera to make a decision.
But not
everything was going to be good news for the Korean striker, as he could not
train with the rest of his team mates due to a problem in his abductor. He just
did some jogging with the physiotherapist and 30 minutes into the training
session, he left to the dressing room to receive a recovery massage.
This lighted the
red alarm, as Park was suppose to play as a starter against Real Madrid, and is
another inconvenience for Herrera’s plans after losing Natxo Insa. I talked to
Celta’s Coach and he confirmed “Park is suffering from a overcharge in his
abductor, and is set to go to Madrid, although he is not confirmed to be a
starter, as we will have to see how he evolves from his injury. He is expected
to train normally tomorrow.”
The rest of the
team completed a normal training session, where Celta’s Coach was mainly
focusing in the movement of the team without the ball, and then again continued
with the passing-pressing routine he has been training for the last sessions.
Javi Varas was bot training today due to a gastroenteritis, which added to his
finger problems might rule him out of Real Madrid’s game. On the other hand
Oubina and MKD completed the training session without any problem and are set
and ready to go to Madrid.
Tomorrow will be
the crucial day for Celta, as it will be the last session before flying to
Madrid, and we will be able to evaluate Park’s condition.
oh my god...
