Sevilla’s keeper Andres Palop and Javier Varas
hold some bitterness against each other, and they have shown that in public. As
a result of all the tensión, and when Sevilla signed Spain international Diego
Lopez from Villareal, one of them had to leave the Club. Sevilla had to put the
two players into a balance and see which of them they were going to keep, and
for Celta´s luck, they chose to keep Andres Palop. The reasons where beyond a sports point of
view, as Sevilla’s fans regard Palop as a legend, who, at his nearly 40 years,
is looking at what probably is his last season at Top Level. Sevilla, on the
other hand, letting Varas go on loan, assures them that next year, with Palop
probably retired; they will have Varas back on the team to fight with Diego
Lopez for the golkeeper spot.
When Varas and Palop were Sevilla’s two
golkeepers, Varas won the race for the starting position, relegating Palop to
the bench. The veteran keeper never took this decision in a mature way, and
starting picking on Varas during training sessions. One day Javier Varas
exploded and stated in a press conference, when asked about it, that it was
true Palop had changed since he was a starter, and that he did not feel his
support. Palop did not take to reply saying “I don’t go out on dinner with
Varas, it’s a professional relationship”.
Even days after arriving to Vigo, Javi Varas
stated that his bad relationship with Palop might have played a key role in his
departure from Sevilla.
But this week, in a calm move, Varas said that
nobody is set to discover Palop now, that he is the best keeper in Sevilla
history. But despite this words, there is a rivalry between this two keepers,
and they will probably hyper motivated to prove who the best keeper is.
This is interesting... :)
