Celta once
again, Celta paid a high Price for his mistakes, but not only that, Celta was
not faithful to his principles, and to do so in Bernabeu is too risky.
Herrera cleared
all the doubts about an hour before the game when he confirmed that Bustos was
going to play as a starter. This changed the formation from the 4-4-2 that
played against Sevilla, to this formation. You cannot compare this formation to
the one used against Valencia, because although the display on the field was
the same, Bustos cannot be compared to Insa’s. The plan was to be able to make
the field big, and have players in all parts of the field, but Celta’s
midfielders were never able to play clearly the ball, being overpowered by Real
Madrid’s midfield spider web. Modric, Kaka and specially Ozil, did as they wish
during the first half. Even Essien had a lot of presence in Celta’s court,
despite the fact he was playing as a left defender.

Even before the
first half ended, Park and Bermejo started warming up, giving the hint that one
of them could be coming into the field very soon. And just minutes after the
second half started, Bustos left his place in the field to Bermejo. This
allowed Celta to have two referents up front, who did not let Real Madrid’
defenders to play out the ball clearly. Shortly after Bermejo came into the
field Park replaced Iago Aspas, and Celta started to create more danger, with a
lot of presence on Real Madrid’s area, but all changed when the referee decided
to award Real Madrid with a doubtful penalty. Ronaldo did not miss the penalty,
but the Portuguese star did not have his best game. In a day where Messi
rescued Barcelona and scored a hat trick against Deportivo, Ronaldo’s stakes
for the Golden Ball seems to have dropped drastically.
Celta had his
chances with two opportunities from De Lucas and Park, but both denied by
Casilla’s. But that shows us what could have been another situation, if Real
Madrid were not awarded the penalty, and if Celta could have scored any of the
goals. But don’t get me wrong, Real Madrid deserved the victory, but Celta had
his chances to be able to bring something else.
Park played very
good minutes, and I was really surprised with the fact that was him who took
the team in his back and carried him the rest of the game.
Celta did not
play his best game of the season, but he was never completely overcome by Real
Madrid, but maybe with a more ambitious tactic we wouldn’t have the doubt of
what could have happen instead.
Celta will
resume training today, with a recovery session. Celta will have a day off
tomorrow before starting to focus on Deportivo’s game on Saturday.
