Paco Herrera was
very intense during today’s session, and he transmitted this unhappiness to
Celta’s players. Maybe the reason of this mood was due to Insa’s yesterday injury
that will force Herrera to play with the B plan. But if Insa’s injury was not
enough, two more players had problems today, goalkeeper Javi Varas and captain
Borja Oubina. Varas’ injury seems to be
taking longer than expected to heal completely, and if confidence is not total,
Herrera will have to play with Sevilla’s game hero Sergio Alvarez. If we have
in mind that Varas only trained yesterday and today with the goalkeepers and that
today he left the field before the session was over, all clues seems to point
to Sergio as the starting goalkeeper for Saturday’s match.
But bigger
problems appeared today, as Borja Oubina did not appear on the training field.
Last Monday Oubina seemed to have had some kind of muscle problem, and ended up
the session jogging while his team mates completed the session. Nothing seemed
to indicate that was anything else than a minor pain, as yesterday Oubina
completed the session. On the other hand, and due to Oubina injury record,
Celta’s coach has always been very delicate with the condition of his captain, and
one possibility is that they asked Borja not to train today and work on the gym
and the physiotherapist. Until further news, I would count on Oubina to start
in Madrid, but again, we will have to wait until Celta releases the medical
report for the team. This report will also let us update Natxo Insa’s status
and possibilities to play on Saturday, which are the moment, seem very vague.
Training wise,
as I said before, Paco Herrera was very intensive, putting a lot of pressure on
his players. After the physical part of the session, that, for second day in a
row was conducted under thick mist, Herrera focused once again on the passing
and pressing, and transition from offense to defence. Herrera was clearly not
happy as he stopped the exercise to lecture his players, shouting clearly that
if they cannot handle that pressure, they won’t be able to handle´s Bernabeu’s.
After this part
of the session, and in half court, Paco Herrera prepared a two team’s practice
game in which he lectured his players once again after stopping the exercise
twice. Herrera is trying to make his players think fast, and during this two
weeks has not been allowing them to do more than 1 touch before passing the
ball, making it very clear that you cannot relax one bit against Real Madrid or
they will make you pay for it.
Once the session
was over, and before the players headed to the dressing room, Herrera lectured
his players once again making it very clear he expects more from his players in
the next days before the match.
Tomorrow it will
be first session with all the available players, including MKD and Park, who
will have two training sessions to change his mentality and focus on Real Madrid’s
game.
